   Impact

   A streak of green-white fire splits the night sky and slams into the cathedral plaza. Onlookers scatter as a crater glows. A simple ring sits at its center.

   Three rooftops away, a silhouette in a cape watches.

   Night Bat Watches

   From a gargoyle ledge Night Bat surveys the crater through goggles. He clicks his comm: 'You feeling this too?'

   Three voices answer at once. None of them are on the same channel.

   Solar Champion Lands

   A figure trailing gold light descends into the crater. Solar Champion reaches for the ring; the metal locks to her palm.

   The cathedral bells ring without anyone touching them.

   Tide and Storm

   Tide Captain wades out of the river holding his trident; above, Storm Empress descends on a column of charged wind. Both look at the ring.

   'It's calling something,' Storm Empress whispers. 'And it's getting closer.'

   Knight Steps Forward

   Heavy footsteps echo across the plaza. Knight Sentinel marches into the crater in plate armor with a glowing two-hander, helmet visor closed.

   'Whoever holds that ring tonight,' Knight Sentinel says, 'they answer to the rest of us.'

   Valor Joins the Line

   Valor vaults down from a torn billboard, throwing net coiled at her shoulder and short sword at her hip. She offers Solar Champion her hand.

   'Whatever's coming,' she says, 'it doesn't get past seven of us.'

   The Mage Names the Threat

   Mind Mage materializes in indigo smoke at the HQ table and reads the ring's surface. 'It's a beacon. Whatever made this is coming for it.' The team locks eyes.

   Cliffhanger

   Mind Mage closes the ring in his palm. 'We have seventy-two hours. League of Originals — assemble.'
